In the Properties panel in the Form Builder there is a function allowing the respondents resize a Text Area Element as they see fit. You’ve probably used this function as a respondent user at some point online. If you need more space to fill out a long text answer, you click the corner of the input field and pull it down to expand the input field. The respondents may therefore resize the area to their own need while filling out the form. You can see the functionality in the respondent view below.

Make a Text Area resizable

Create or open a previously created form, and add a Text Area element to the form.

Select the Text Area element in the canvas. The element properties menu appears on the right side. In the Builder tab in the Input section, check off Make Text Area Resizable.

If you would like to override the minimum size for the Text Area Element, you may also check of Override Width and Override Height. This sets the minimum size in respondent view; however, you may also leave the check boxes for width and height open. The minimum size will then automatically be set as the default for Text Area Element.

The input field will now be resizable in the respondent view. Remember however, that the input character limit also needs to be changed to enable the respondent to enter a long text. Enter the Max number of characters allowed as input.

Save the draft and create a new version of the form to to display the changes in workflows.
