Validation in workflows

Validation in workflows

Compose Enterprise is going through a design update. The illustrations on this page might be of the old design, but the information is up to date. Thank you for your patience during this update!

In workflows you have the option to add a validation activity. All the settings for the validation activity are set in the workflow builder. The Validation activity enables the end-user to check the validity of the data entered in a form. If the information added in a form is not valid, i.e. does not fill the requirements for validation and/or mandatory/recommended questions are not answered, the validation activity will display a list of the fields with missing information.

Adding a validation activity to the workflow therefore makes it easier for the end-user to find, correct and fill in the missing information.

Create or open a previously created workflow with the following workflow activities: Start Point, Form activity, Validation activity and End Point. Navigate to the Builder section of the Workflow Builder. Set any properties for the form, start and end point. If you need information on setting up these elements in a workflow, please refer to the Build a simple workflow user guide. Note: For the validation activity to be able to validate a previous form, there must be a two-way connector between the form and the validation activity. Select the Validation activity in the canvas to display the Properties panel on the right.

The validation process is already set up, and you do not need to edit any of these properties. If you would like to change the Layout/Skin for the validation page in the respondent view or edit the perspectives, you may do so.

Save the draft, and create a new version of the workflow to see the validation activity in action (again, the Build a simple workflow user guide covers the basics). To use the example you need Compose v 7.1.0 or newer: Validation workflow.cng
