Validation (workflow activity)

Validation (workflow activity)

Compose Enterprise is going through a design update. The illustrations on this page might be of the old design, but the information is up to date. Thank you for your patience during this update!

The Validation activity is located under Validation and Signing in the Activities panel in the Workflow Builder. Drag and drop the activity to the canvas and select it to reveal the Properties - Validation panel on the right. The Validation activity will validate the form answers given by the end-user in a form, and will let the end-user know if the form passed or failed the validation. If the form fails the validation a list of the errors will be displayed and the end-user can go back to correct the errors. See the Validation in workflows user guide to see a user case.

Properties - Validation

Name

For the convenience of the workflow designer. The name is only used while building the workflow, and is not shown in the respondent view. If you give all the workflow activities easily identifiable names it will be easier to find the correct activity when it needs to be referenced across the workflow.

Layout/Skin (Default Layout/ Design Settings)

Select whether the activity should have a custom layout, or inherit (the layout) from previous step, inherit from entry point or inherit from workflow. By picking Custom you can override the workflow layout/skin settings. See the Layout/ Skin property for the Workflow Builder – Settings section to see all layout options.

Alternative Perspective Settings

Add perspective

If the workflow has more than one perspective added in the workflow settings it will be possible to use one or more of the perspectives as an alternative perspective for the activity. Select the Add Perspective button and select the perspective you wish to use as an alternative. Use the Delete Perspective button to delete a perspective. See the Perspectives - Different views of the same workflow to learn more about perspectives.

Layout/skin

If you select an alternative perspective a dropdown for this alternative perspective's layout/skin will be enabled. You can select if the layout/skin should be inherited or if it should be custom. See the description of Layout/skin above for more information.
